Youth Shelter in North Brunswick
location
Highway 130
PO Box 7164
North Brunswick 08902
what it is
The Middlesex County Youth Shelter is a temporary dorm for children
up to the age of 18 as they are placed there by various government
agencies such as DYFS. The facility hosts up to 12 boys and 12 girls,
and once every two months we visit the shelter on a Saturday to
spend time with them. The kids there are mostly in middle school
and high school, and they come from a very diverse background.
what you’ll do
At a usual visit expect to play some sports like basketball or
dodge ball, and some group games and ice breakers. Typically we
also bring a meal--BBQ when weather permits or pizza. For the
holidays we also do a special meal. Each time we visit we ask
everyone to bring a $5 gift that is wrapped for a secret Santa
game at the end of the shelter visit.
how to help
Come to play with the kids, talk with them, eat with them and bring a
gift. If anyone is interested in helping out with arts & crafts,
please let Jeff Chuang know.
when to expect the next opportunity
Jeff Chuang organizes Youth Shelter visits every other month.
February, April, June, August, October, and December. Please see the events
calendar for more details.
