Sports Ministry

Here at Harvest, along with all the other great stuff, “sports” is part of our DNA. When we play a sport our goal is to have a good time, strengthen our bodies, worship and praise God, and have great fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Here are just SOME of the sports that Harvest is part of…

Basketball

Contact:   Willard Oon ()

Description:   Who would've thought that a ball and a hoop can be so much fun? Even though at Harvest, this sport is currently all dudes, we've definitely had some female ballers in the past. Whether you belong in the NBA (we know, you overslept the morning of the try-outs) or the only way you can score is on a 5 foot rim, please check us out. We usually play once or twice a week at the Rutgers gym and participate in a couple church leagues and tournaments every year.

Girls' Football

Description:   The girls-only football team participates in several annual tournaments. No past football experience is necessary as long as you are willing to learn. Practices are generally held a month or two before our tournaments. Most of our girls have only a couple of years of experience. Earlier this year, the team placed second at the Running Roots tournament.

Golf

Description:   Yes, that's right, golf. We hit up the driving range about 3-4 times a week, sometimes even on Sundays after church. Some get together too for tee time every once in a while. Never played but interested? Not to worry! We have many beginners and people willing to coach. Just shoot me an email if you're interested!

Hiking

Description:   Hiking strengthens your body and helps you clear your mind. During the summers, we host several single-day as well as multi-day hiking events. We've been all along the Northeast trying to find the best hiking spot. Come join our quest!

Rock Climbing/Bouldering

Description:   If you like to hang upside down or dangle 45 ft off the ground, then rock climbing is for you. Climbing is for everyone. It's fun, challenging, and great exercise. Absolutely no experience is needed. There are quite a few places to climb around HIC and we climb both weekdays and weekends.

Snowboarding/Skiing

Description:   Whether you're a snowboarder or skier, hit the slopes for a day and get to know fellow brothers and sisters of HIC. Past events include day trips to Blue Mountain or other nearby resorts and a 3-day trip to Stratton, VT!!! Day trips take place regularly throughout the winter season. All levels are welcome. Snowboard or ski at your own risk!

Softball

Description:   Meet some of the men at HIC by joining our softball league during the summer (April to August)! We play approximately 12 games with playoffs and another tournament in the fall! Games and practices are usually on Sunday. Softball is a great team sport where everyone is involved in every play! Our team has won three championships in 6 years so please come and join us!

Surfing

Description:   Suit up and join HIC’s surfing club! Most of us are beginners who are eager to learn the way of the ocean. We surf at Manasquan (Jersey Shore) almost every Saturday during the summer. Rides are available (Leave from Somerset NJ around 7:30 AM). You don’t need to own a surfboard, as many of us rent from a local surf shop down by the beach. Hang ten dude!

Tennis

Description:   Tennis is awesome! If you agree with that statement, please contact us! We currently have a small group of tennis players at HIC that play 8 months a year. We usually play right after lunch on Sunday. Skill levels vary among us. If you are a beginner and want to learn, we have some awesome folks that can help you. If you are an expert and looking for competition, we got that too!

Volleyball

Description:   At Harvest, the volleyball team is coed. We enjoy hitting around on weekends and we also participate in a few tournaments. There are currently no scheduled times that we meet but if you shoot us an email, we will be glad to keep you informed.
